According to BlockBeats, on June 28, official news confirmed that the root cause of the two consecutive outages of Coinbase's Layer2 network Base last week was a software vulnerability in the Sequencer block building logic.
The Base engineering team stated that after an invalid transaction fails to execute, the related journal state should be cleared. However, due to a program defect, the old state was incorrectly retained, ultimately preventing the sequencer and validator nodes from generating new blocks. On June 26, the Base mainnet experienced two block production interruptions as a result, the first lasting 116 minutes and the second lasting 20 minutes.
The team stated that although the sorter state update issue was fixed with a patch, a "race condition" appeared after the system restarted, causing the sorter to fail to resume synchronization in time, thus triggering a second outage. In addition, some infrastructure issues also prolonged the overall recovery time.
Base stated that it will strengthen protocol fuzz testing to improve vulnerability discovery capabilities under abnormal input scenarios and optimize network recovery mechanisms to avoid the need for manual restart of verification nodes in similar future events.
It's worth noting that this isn't the first time Base has experienced outages due to Sequencer-related issues; it previously suffered network outages of approximately 17 minutes in September 2024 and 30 minutes in August 2025. Currently, Base remains the second-largest Ethereum Layer 2 network by Total Value Locked (TVS).
According to BlockBeats, on June 28, based on GMGN data, the market capitalization of Solana's ecosystem Meme coin ANSEM briefly exceeded $32 million, but has now fallen back to $24 million, representing a 115-fold increase in 24 hours, with a 24-hour trading volume of $21.2 million.
Crypto KOL Ansem stated on social media today that he had to distribute a "stimmy" to the "on-chain trenches" (referring to on-chain Meme coin traders) because Pump.fun "refused to give out money (airdrops)".
