According to Beating AI News, DeepSeek operator engineer Liu Shengyu has posted another article responding to various interpretations following the viral success of his post, "I Had to Bury My Talent in Yesterday." He stated that what he truly wanted to express was not unemployment anxiety, nor the strategic competition between DeepSeek and Anthropic, but rather that AI is causing him to abandon the work style he once enjoyed.
In the past, when writing operators, he typed out most of the code word by word. He enjoyed slowly figuring out the code structure, variable naming, and scheduling schemes, and then gradually improving the performance until he surpassed Flash Attention, NVIDIA's official implementation, and even tackled tasks that were previously considered difficult to optimize.
But AI is already doing things faster than him, and it will become even faster and better in the future. For the sake of efficiency and performance, he must research how to make the agent write operators better. Hand-written operators, and even programming, may gradually transform from a productive activity into a form of entertainment or competition, much like hunting with a javelin.
Liu Shengyu said he is relatively optimistic about the future of AI and his personal situation. What he is truly pessimistic about is whether people will still be able to focus on doing one thing seriously in the future, and whether he himself will still be able to treat his work as a hobby in the long run. However, he will continue to write operators and introduce AI agents, believing that "it's better to evolve on your own than to be eliminated by others."
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal on September 15th, sources familiar with the matter said that the Federal Reserve's database used to monitor banks experienced a malfunction last month, lasting for more than a day. The malfunction involved the Federal Reserve's National Information Center, a system used to provide bank-related data to regulators.
It is reported that the National Information Center's database experienced a failure lasting more than 24 hours around August 5th. Senator Elizabeth Warren stated in a letter that this database failure has raised concerns that staff reductions at the Federal Reserve may impact system maintenance and bank supervision.
