950 Claude Agents ran for 21 hours and found a biological system that humans missed
Beating AI News, the molecular biology lab built by Anthropic has announced its first result. Human scientists only gave Claude a direction, letting it search through massive DNA data to find new reverse transcriptases worth studying, which are enzymes that can write RNA information back into DNA. About 950 Claude Agents ran for 21 hours, screening out 3,500 candidate systems from over 200,000 reverse transcriptases, and finally narrowing it down to 20 key objects.
One of the Agents found that a strange reverse transcriptase was adjacent to a large number of regular repeated DNA sequences, which looked like CRISPR. CRISPR is a natural DNA defense system in bacteria, later modified by humans into a gene editing tool that can find specific DNA and cut it based on RNA's 'navigation'. Claude then counted the repeated sequences, analyzed the spacing, compared known systems, and searched papers, finally concluding that there might be a previously unrecognised biological system here. Anthropic named it ART.
Human scientists then verified it in the laboratory. ART is mainly found in bacteriophages, viruses that specifically infect bacteria. It consists of a reverse transcriptase, an adjacent protein with unknown function, and a long string of repeated DNA. Experiments confirmed that these repeated DNA sequences produce various short RNAs. A few known systems with similar structures can cut, copy, or rewrite DNA, so Anthropic continues to study whether ART also has similar capabilities.
It is not yet clear what the exact function of ART is, nor can it be said that it can already edit genes. The reverse transcriptase had been studied before, but Claude's new discovery was the complete relationship between it and the adjacent repeated DNA and unknown protein. This time, Claude was not told in advance to look for ART, but instead discovered anomalies from many candidates, continued to investigate, and then handed the results to humans for experiments. Anthropic said that such analysis would usually take several weeks to months if done entirely by experts.

Odaily Planet Daily News: According to a report by financial investment data company PitchBook, the baseline valuation of the prediction market platform Kalshi is approximately $30.4 billion, and could reach $42.1 billion under a strong market performance scenario, and about $22.8 billion under a pessimistic scenario. Kalshi completed a $1 billion Series F financing in May this year, with a post-money valuation of $22 billion. PitchBook expects Kalshi's revenue to reach $6.4 billion by 2030, and adjusted profit of $3.7 billion. However, regulatory risks in sports forecasting markets are key variables affecting its valuation. Currently, the sports market contributes about 69.9% of Kalshi's event fee income, and if including multi-game combination and other Exotics products, the proportion rises to 82.4%.
