According to Huoxun Finance, a 34-year-old mainland man lost approximately 500,000 RMB in cryptocurrency trading while in Hong Kong on a two-way permit. Devastated, he posted on social media that he had suicidal tendencies and planned to travel to Hong Kong. Following a report, law enforcement investigated and apprehended the man at a fast-food restaurant on Queensway at 12:30 PM on May 14th. A lighter and suspected gasoline were found on him. He was arrested on suspicion of "possessing any articles with intent to destroy or damage property" and is currently being detained for investigation. No one was injured in the incident, and no evacuation was required. The man had previously complained to the relevant platform about his investment losses but received no satisfactory response.

According to Huoxun Finance, Chainalysis published an article disclosing the fund movements related to the THORChain theft: Weeks before the attack, wallets suspected to be associated with the attackers transferred funds through Monero, Hyperliquid, and THORChain. In late April, funds were deposited into Hyperliquid positions via privacy bridges on Hyperliquid and Monero. These funds were then converted to USDC and transferred to Arbitrum before being bridged to Ethereum. Some ETH was transferred to THORChain to become a new node for staking RUNE, which was identified as the source of the attack. Prior to the attack, the attackers bridged some RUNE back to Ethereum, splitting it into four links. One of these links transferred 8 ETH to the final wallet receiving the stolen funds 43 minutes before the attack. The funds flowed in the opposite direction in the other three links, with the wallets then bridging the ETH back to Arbitrum, depositing it into Hyperliquid, and transferring it to Monero via a privacy bridge. The last such transaction occurred less than 5 hours before the attack began. As of Friday afternoon, the stolen funds have not been used, but the attackers have demonstrated sophisticated cross-chain money laundering capabilities, and the path from Hyperliquid to Monero may become their next operational direction.
