According to BlockBeats, on August 20, prediction market platform Kalshi submitted an application to the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to launch a perpetual futures contract linked to copper prices.
According to documents submitted on August 18, the proposed COPPERPERP contract will track spot copper prices denominated in USD/lb and will use price data provided by blockchain data service provider Pyth Network.
This contract will be settled in cash and will not involve physical delivery of copper. Unlike traditional futures, perpetual futures have no expiration date, allowing traders to hold positions for an extended period without rolling over them. The price is anchored to the spot market through a periodic funding rate mechanism for both long and short positions.
This application marks Kalshi's further expansion beyond the traditional event prediction market boundaries into the fields of commodities and financial derivatives.
Previously, in May of this year, Kalshi received approval from the CFTC to launch Bitcoin perpetual futures. In addition, the company recently submitted an application related to stock index perpetual futures.
Copper, as an important raw material for power grids, buildings, electric vehicles, electronic devices, and AI data center infrastructure, is widely traded in markets such as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) COMEX, the London Metal Exchange (LME), and the Shanghai Futures Exchange.
According to BlockBeats, on August 20, Onchain Lens monitoring revealed that Hyperliquid trader "pension-usdt.eth" had his ETH short position liquidated, involving an exposure of approximately $108.18 million.
On-chain data shows that the trader incurred a loss of approximately $26.66 million in this liquidation, but their historical cumulative profit remains positive, with a total profit of $17.76 million. Previously, this address held short positions in approximately 50,000 ETH, worth approximately $85 million.

According to BlockBeats, on August 20, OnchainLens monitored that Multicoin Capital's associated address deposited 62,730 HYPE tokens, worth approximately $4.37 million, into Coinbase Prime 45 minutes ago.
On-chain data shows that the transfer address is 0x57C6D4bD52F592a265F59B595a905B04C848174B. Multicoin Capital has previously conducted multiple HYPE token transfers.
According to BlockBeats, on August 20th, HTX market data showed that Bitcoin briefly surged to $70,000 before falling back to $69,800, with a 24-hour increase of 8.08%.
