Robinhood Brings Leveraged Crypto Perpetual Futures to US Customers, Launches AI Trading Agents

Robinhood will offer crypto perpetual futures to eligible US customers in the coming months, one of a slate of products the company announced at its HOOD Summit in Houston on Tuesday, alongside AI agents that can trade autonomously, round-the-clock weekend stock trading and binary contracts tied to corporate earnings.

The perpetual contracts will cover BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, ADA, LINK and HYPE, with leverage of up to 10x on bitcoin and ether and 3x on the rest. They will be offered by Robinhood Derivatives, a CFTC-registered futures commission merchant, through Bitstamp, the exchange Robinhood completed its acquisition of in June 2025. Robinhood said it will charge one basis point per trade through the end of the year.

The product extends a line Robinhood first opened in Europe, where it launched perpetual futures for EU customers in mid-2025 at 3x leverage. In the US it lands on ground Coinbase has held since July 2025, when Coinbase Financial Markets began offering CFTC-regulated bitcoin and ether perpetual-style contracts with up to 10x leverage and fees starting at 0.02%. Robinhood's promotional rate is half that, and its asset list is broader.

The other headline launch is Robinhood Agents, which lets customers create an AI agent, give it a dedicated agentic account and choose a model from several AI labs including OpenAI. Agents can analyse markets, build strategies and execute trades within limits the user sets, with manual approval of each trade switched on by default. Funds are limited to the agentic account, and a forthcoming feature called Loops will let agents run recurring strategies continuously, including overnight and while the app is closed. Robinhood is also adding paid Agent Apps from third-party data providers, among them Token Terminal's crypto fundamentals at $10 a month, and said customers can already run their own agents inside its Legend desktop platform through a Robinhood Trading MCP server.

On the equities side, Robinhood said it plans to extend its existing 24 Hour Market, which runs from Sunday evening to Friday evening, to allow trading in a selection of US stocks and ETFs through the weekend, pending regulatory review. It will also roll out earnings contracts, binary options listed through Cboe that pay up to $1 depending on whether a company beats estimates or hits a revenue target, with no contract fees through year-end.

"We're making Robinhood the best place in the world for active traders by delivering tools once reserved for hedge funds, big banks, and quant firms," CEO Vlad Tenev said.

The market response was muted. Robinhood shares closed at $116.22 on Tuesday, down 0.2% on the day and about 5% lower than a week earlier. Most of the announcements carry no firm launch date, and the weekend equities and earnings products remain subject to regulatory review, so the practical test will be how quickly the perps and agent accounts reach customers before the promotional pricing expires at the end of December.
