Helix and Avalanche Unveil Fusion with $100M Fund to Power Domain-Specific Blockchain Economies
Helix and Avalanche , in partnership with Faculty Group, today unveiled Fusion. It is a community-driven initiative designed to fast-track the development of outcome-focused, domain-specific blockchain economies. By marrying Avalanche’s high-performance network with a modular suite of customizable “Composers” and “Modules,” Fusion aims to give developers and enterprises the building blocks they need to deliver real-world value—beyond mere experimentation—to sectors ranging from AI and healthcare to decentralized infrastructure.
Fusion Core Contributor David Post said, “Fusion is about unlocking the next chapter of blockchain adoption. We’re building a framework that goes beyond experimentation – enabling scalable, sector-specific solutions with real-world impact and value. By combining Avalanche’s performance with a powerful suite of modular services, Fusion gives builders the tools they need to deploy meaningful applications and connect them to a thriving, interoperable ecosystem.”
A Two-Layer Approach to Purpose-Built Blockchains
At its heart, Fusion rests on a two-layer architecture:
- Composers are independent Layer-1 blockchains tailored to vertical use cases—think AI-specialized chains, decentralized science (DeSci) networks, and DePIN (decentralized physical infrastructure networks). Each Composer comes with its own software development kits (SDKs) and APIs, streamlining integration and deployment for developers.
- Modules are plug-and-play services—everything from stablecoins and compute resources to biometric identity verification and on-chain oracles for real-world data like weather or commodity prices. Developers can mix and match these Modules through their chosen Composer. Moreover, they can craft bespoke ecosystems that reward measurable outcomes, not just transactional volume.
This composable model means a healthcare provider could spin up a Composer optimized for AI-driven diagnostics. In addition, they can plug in Modules for patient identity, data storage, analytics, and tokenized incentives—all on a fast, EVM-compatible network.
Powered by Avalanche’s High-Performance Engine
Fusion uses Avalanche’s proven technology stack: the C-Chain for rapid, EVM-compatible smart contract execution, and Interchain Messaging (ICM). This results in secure, efficient data exchange between Composers and other Layer-1 networks. The outcome is a seamless, scalable environment where custom blockchains can talk to one another and to the wider Avalanche ecosystem. Moreover, it is done without sacrificing speed or finality.
Nicholas Mussallem, CEO of AvaCloud, said, “Fusion equips developers with the tools they need to build impactful, real-world applications on live blockchain networks. While AvaCloud streamlines Layer 1 network creation, Fusion enhances these networks once they’re operational. This initiative combines the best tools for scaling blockchain technology, creating tangible value, and driving widespread adoption across industries.”
Backed by $100 Million to Ignite Ecosystem Growth
Fusion isn’t just a blueprint—it’s backed by a substantial war chest. Helix and Avalanche have earmarked $100 million across existing Avalanche programs—including Multiverse, Retro9000, InfraBUIDL, and InfraBUIDL AI—to accelerate Composer launches in high-impact verticals, build out foundational Modules, and incentivize developers to integrate Fusion’s APIs and SDKs into production applications.
Early participants already include:
- Life Network , a healthcare-focused Composer deploying AI solutions for disease-specific use cases such as stroke prevention.
- Kite AI , a decentralized AI-model marketplace.
- Tayga , specializing in decentralized infrastructure resources.
In the coming months, Fusion plans to roll out additional Composers targeting real-world assets (RWAs), digital identity, and DeFi. It will be done while convening best-in-class Modules in partnership with services like QuickNode and Space and Time.
Helix and Avalanche: A Collaborative Force
Helix brings a thesis-driven advisory and incubation model. It is acting as fractional founders to help partner companies scale and explore the Web3 domain. The firm works closely with top venture funds, projects, and blockchains to build industry-leading ecosystems.
Avalanche, renowned for its ultra-fast, low-latency platform, offers a unique environment for creating sovereign, interoperable Layer-1 chains. Its consensus mechanism offers high throughput and near-instant transaction finality. This makes it an ideal substrate for Fusion’s composable, sector-specific blockchains.
Looking Ahead
Fusion’s mission is simple but ambitious: to coordinate outcomes on chain, not just clear transactions. By weaving together specialized Composers and versatile Modules on a high-performance network, the initiative seeks to turn blockchain technology into a practical engine for innovation—where every participant, from developers to end users, benefits from aligned economic incentives.
As Fusion’s early Composers go live and its $100 million development fund kicks in, the broader blockchain world will be watching to see whether this modular, community-led approach can truly deliver measurable real-world impact—and usher in a new era of specialized, outcome-driven blockchain economies.
