Open Standard launched OUSD, its Open USD stablecoin, on Sept. 30, with Stripe making the token available to businesses that build on its payments platform, Stripe said in a company newsroom post . OUSD is offered alongside Stripe’s existing stablecoin options and is aimed at global money movement, from cross-border payroll to remittances.

The token is issued by Open Standard, an independent company founded by Coinbase, Mastercard, Shopify, Stripe, and Visa. Its pitch is simpler economics than incumbent stablecoins: businesses can mint and burn OUSD at no cost, rather than paying the variable mint and burn fees that can make stablecoin flows cost-prohibitive. Open Standard instead charges a small, predictable transaction fee.

Free mint-and-burn economics

Businesses that convert between dollars and OUSD do so without a mint or burn fee, which Stripe argues removes a recurring cost from high-volume cross-border flows. Open Standard earns revenue through a small, predictable per-transaction fee, a model the company contrasts with stablecoins whose variable fees make frequent conversions expensive. Businesses that join as Open Standard partners also earn rewards for adopting and transacting with the token.

A stablecoin woven into Stripe’s stack

OUSD works across Stripe’s developer tools rather than as a standalone wallet product. Developers can build with OUSD through Stripe’s APIs, including Bridge orchestration, Privy embedded wallets, and stablecoin cards issued through Stripe Issuing. Businesses can hold OUSD in Stripe Treasury, spend the balance with stablecoin cards, and send it to crypto wallets in more than 100 countries, funding accounts from wallets on Tempo, Base, Ethereum, and Solana, or with fiat through ACH, SEPA, and wire transfers.

Another corporate stablecoin enters the field

“OUSD offers businesses better economics than any other stablecoin,” said Henri Stern, co-founder of Privy, in the announcement. “We’re excited to give developers the choice to use it across all of Stripe’s stablecoin stack.” The launch extends a wave of mainstream payment companies pushing their own stablecoins, following Stripe’s $53 billion bid for PayPal framed as a stablecoin consolidation play and earlier stablecoin launches through Stripe partnerships such as MetaMask’s mmUSD . Ramp, an Open Standard partner, said it will use Stripe to power stablecoin accounts that let customers hold OUSD balances, earn rewards, and send money around the clock. Open Standard framed the launch as the first step of a broader rollout and did not detail volume targets or expansion timelines.
