Coinbase is partnering with Stablecore to let community and regional banks and credit unions offer digital asset custody, trading, and stablecoin payments without leaving their existing banking platforms, the exchange said in a September 16 announcement . The tie-up pairs Coinbase’s regulated digital asset infrastructure with Stablecore’s white-label technology, which is already integrated into the core banking, digital banking, and compliance systems behind more than 3,000 U.S. institutions. The companies said the rollout is already underway, with Texas-based Amarillo National Bank among the first participants. The move targets a segment of the banking market that has largely been left out of institutional-grade crypto infrastructure.

How the Integration Works

Under the arrangement, a bank’s customers can buy, sell, hold, pay with, and stake digital assets directly inside the bank or credit union’s own app or website. Stablecore handles the integration and orchestration across each institution’s existing technology, while Coinbase supplies the underlying custody and exchange services. Stablecore, which serves only community and regional banks and credit unions, says its platform unifies tokenized deposits, stablecoins, and other digital asset products rather than forcing institutions to rebuild their tech stack. For institutions across Stablecore’s network, the model means digital asset products arrive without a migration off the systems customers already use.

Keeping Customers Local

The partnership is designed so that banks keep the customer relationship and their deposit and lending businesses intact while adding digital asset capabilities under their own brand. Coinbase framed the move as a way for smaller institutions to compete with the largest banks as financial rails shift on-chain, echoing its earlier work bringing stablecoin payments to community banks through a partnership with Moov .

What Executives Said

“Community banks and credit unions shouldn’t have to choose between staying local and staying current,” said Alec Lovett, Coinbase’s head of infrastructure business. “Together with Stablecore we are helping put them on the cutting edge of payments technology – cheaper, faster money movement, and the tools they need to stay strong for the communities they serve.” Stablecore co-founder and CEO Alex Treece added that banks “should not have to move to completely new technology platforms to support digital assets for their clients.”

The announcement lands as mainstream financial institutions keep adding digital asset services, a shift that has already pushed players like Deutsche Bank into digital asset custody for institutional clients.
