Stablecoin payments infrastructure provider BVNK and card-issuing platform Marqeta (NASDAQ: MQ) said on Sept. 9 that they have partnered to deliver stablecoin-backed card capabilities to crypto-native and non-crypto companies. The integration will let Marqeta’s customers embed stablecoin features into wallets, cards and everyday financial products, allowing users to transact in digital dollars at millions of merchants with a standard payment card.

How the partnership works

Marqeta will manage card issuance, acceptance and bank and network relationships, while BVNK provides the infrastructure for its customers to move and manage stablecoins alongside traditional fiat currencies. Marqeta processed nearly $400 billion in annual payments volume during 2025, and BVNK said it is behind more than $39 billion in annualized payment volume. Marqeta selected BVNK’s regulated platform to speed up delivery while keeping the compliance and operational standards its enterprise customers expect, according to an announcement the companies published . BVNK said it powers the stablecoin financial stack for enterprises and is trusted by companies including Corpay, Worldpay, Deel and Flywire, moving money across more than 130 countries, while Marqeta is certified to operate in more than 40 countries.

A deeper tie into the Mastercard network

The partnership also links Marqeta to Mastercard’s network. Mastercard is one of Marqeta’s major network partners, and BVNK’s stablecoin infrastructure has been part of Mastercard since Mastercard acquired the business in August 2026. Mastercard, Marqeta and BVNK are all supporters of Open USD, a global standard for stablecoins that the companies said is built to scale across networks, providers and use cases. Over time, the companies said the growing collaboration will give Marqeta’s customers a path to additional Mastercard capabilities through the same integration rather than a separate build.

Stablecoins move toward mainstream payments

BVNK pointed to its own research showing 77% of surveyed crypto holders would open a stablecoin wallet through their primary bank or fintech app if one were available. “Stablecoins are becoming a durable, complementary layer in global money movement,” said Anthony Peculic, chief strategy officer at Marqeta. Chris Harmse, BVNK’s co-founder and chief business officer, said stablecoins are “becoming part of the core payments infrastructure.” The companies said the tie-up is another sign that stablecoins are moving beyond crypto-native applications and into the infrastructure powering global financial services. The deal follows similar efforts to connect stablecoins with card rails, such as Visa’s work linking onchain lending to stablecoin card financing .
