To date, the attacker has transferred a total of 500 ETH to Tornado Cash.

Previously, Aztec Network suffered a security attack in June 2026, resulting in the loss of approximately $2.165 million in crypto assets. This latest fund transfer may further increase the difficulty of tracing the stolen assets.

According to BlockBeats, on August 8, Dan Katz, First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stated that homegrown stablecoins aimed at reducing reliance on US dollar stablecoins may actually accelerate users' shift to US dollar stablecoins.

Katz points out that when native stablecoins and US dollar stablecoins operate on the same blockchain infrastructure, users can exchange between the two through decentralized exchanges, liquidity pools, or peer-to-peer transactions. This could reduce the cost of currency conversion and drive foreign exchange activity from traditional banks and currency dealers to on-chain transactions.

He stated, "Domestic stablecoins may even accelerate the adoption of foreign exchange stablecoins (USD stablecoins)." Katz cited South Africa as an example, pointing out that while USD stablecoins already have a certain level of usage there, demand for local stablecoins pegged to the rand is lower. Although it's still too early to draw definitive conclusions, users may prefer USD stablecoins due to factors such as higher liquidity, stronger network effects, and wider platform and cross-border acceptance.

Katz believes the impact of stablecoins varies from country to country. In highly dollarized economies, stablecoins may primarily replace existing dollar assets; while in countries with limited access to dollars and weaker economic foundations, stablecoins may further increase demand for foreign currency. He calls on regulatory agencies in various countries to include stablecoin imports, exports, and on-chain trading platforms within their regulatory frameworks to mitigate potential risks.
