According to Odaily Planet Daily, Bitcoin hardware wallet manufacturer Coinkite disclosed in late July 2026 that a firmware build bug introduced in March 2021 caused some Coldcard wallets to generate mnemonic phrases from a smaller pool, reducing the randomness of users' private keys. Galaxy Research researchers stated that the Coldcard exploit occurred in multiple waves, with observed Bitcoin losses increasing from approximately $88 million to nearly $114 million within days. Researchers warned that many Coldcard users transferred their Bitcoin after other vulnerable addresses could still be targeted. Coldcard is a Bitcoin-only wallet that supports offline signing via microSD card and optional QR code. Launched in 2017, it has long been considered one of the most security-focused Bitcoin hardware wallets.

Tyler Williams, a senior official at the U.S. Treasury Department responsible for digital asset policy, has resigned. He previously served as a principal crypto advisor to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and was involved in developing the Trump administration's digital asset agenda. Bessent confirmed that Williams' last day at the Treasury Department was last Friday. Williams joined the Treasury Department in early 2025, having previously served as head of policy at Galaxy Digital, and is expected to return to the private sector. Williams' departure comes as Congress remains deadlocked over the Clarity Act for Digital Asset Markets. This market structure bill has stalled before lawmakers' August recess due to disagreements over ethical provisions among federal officials.

Odaily Planet Daily reports that digital asset prime brokerage FalconX has laid off approximately 10% of its global workforce. Prior to the layoffs, FalconX had around 350 employees in the US, UK, Singapore, and Hong Kong. FalconX is adjusting its Singapore strategy, shifting its focus to crypto derivatives trading, and plans to withdraw its application for a local license submitted to the Monetary Authority of Singapore. The company plans to maintain its Asian operations while expanding its European business.
