According to BlockBeats, on August 26, following Canadian Prime Minister Carney's announcement of retaliatory measures against newly imposed U.S. tariffs, the Trump administration is discussing further trade sanctions against Canada. A White House official revealed that further escalation measures against its northern neighbor could include raising tariffs and other trade actions, and the U.S. government is expected to respond to Canada's latest moves. The official noted that President Trump possesses a range of tools that could be used to resolve this dispute should U.S.-Canada trade negotiations break down.

Canada announced yesterday that it will impose tariffs of 15% to 50% on approximately $20 billion worth of U.S. goods; Canada will also raise tariffs on U.S. steel products from 25% to 50%. The Canadian government stated that, starting September 8, it will impose retaliatory tariffs of 15%, 25%, or 50% on approximately 700 products.
