According to CryptoWorld, Anthropic held an emergency working meeting with the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington on June 15 regarding export controls on its latest AI model, but the talks failed to reach an agreement, and Claude Fable 5 remains globally blocked. The U.S. government's restrictions stem primarily from security concerns, fearing that Fable 5's security defenses could be bypassed through jailbreaking, unleashing powerful cyberattack capabilities. The meeting was led by Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown, with Commerce Department officials present to listen to the discussion. Although the team reiterated that concerns about jailbreaking risks were exaggerated, Commerce Department officials were not convinced and demanded that Anthropic completely resolve the jailbreaking vulnerability. Currently, both sides are discussing the next steps. U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is expected to meet directly with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei at the G7 summit. In response to the ban, more than 80 cybersecurity professionals signed an open letter on June 14 in support of Anthropic, arguing that the ban would weaken the U.S.'s leadership in the field of AI.
