According to Odaily Planet Daily, a journalist covering the conflict between Israel, the United States, and Iran has received death threats for his reporting, and the incident is linked to a Polymarket prediction market contract involving over $14 million in bets. Emanuel Fabian, a military reporter for The Times of Israel, stated that after he reported on the March 10th Iranian missile strike near Beit Shemesh, Israel, some users who had placed bets on Polymarket contacted him, attempting to influence the report. The prediction market contract, titled "Iran strikes Israel on…?", stipulated that if Iran launched a missile, drone, or airstrike on Israeli territory that day, the contract result would be "yes." However, the contract also stipulated that if the attack was intercepted, it would not count as a result. Fabian stated that he subsequently received dozens of messages via email, social media, and instant messaging applications, including a threatening message on WhatsApp from a user who said he would "end his life" if he didn't change the report. Some also demanded that he change the report to "the missile was intercepted." Fabian stated that he refused to change the report because the information came from Israeli aid services and the military. He has filed a police report and provided investigators with information regarding the threats he made. This incident has also drawn renewed attention from regulators. Some lawmakers in Washington, D.C., are pushing for legislation to ban prediction market trading related to war, death, or assassination.
