The growing intersection of traditional finance, digital assets and artificial intelligence is reshaping hiring priorities across the Web3 industry. As the sector evolves, financial expertise in areas such as risk management, compliance and governance is becoming increasingly relevant alongside blockchain and cryptocurrency knowledge.

These changing workforce requirements were among the key topics discussed by KuCoin’s Head of Talent Acquisition, Karina Li, at Web3 Career Connect, an official community event held as part of Hong Kong FinTech Week x StartmeupHK 2026.

Speaking during the panel “Inside Web3: Building Businesses, Teams & Careers,” Li addressed how the convergence of digital assets and traditional financial services is expanding the range of skills companies seek when recruiting talent.

While technical knowledge remains important, she emphasized the growing relevance of established financial disciplines as Web3 businesses develop. Experience in regulatory compliance, risk management and corporate governance is becoming an increasingly valuable complement to crypto expertise, reflecting the broader skill sets required across the industry.

Li also discussed the role of artificial intelligence in reshaping employment opportunities. As AI becomes more integrated into Web3 technologies and business models, companies are facing changing skill requirements, potentially opening career paths for professionals from finance, technology and other industries.

“Building services that users can trust requires sustained investment in people,” Karina said. “Professional depth and continuous learning help young talent contribute as the industry evolves.”

Beyond the industry’s changing recruitment needs, Li highlighted the importance of developing professionals who can adapt to an evolving financial and technological environment. She pointed to structured training, mentorship and practical experience as essential components of helping graduates build independent judgment and assume greater responsibilities.

In a separate session titled “How to Make the Right Career Choices in the Crypto Era,” Li offered guidance to university students and recent graduates considering careers in digital assets.

She encouraged participants to evaluate potential employers based on their business fundamentals, long-term industry demand and opportunities for professional development, rather than focusing exclusively on emerging trends.

According to Li, building expertise in a core discipline provides an important foundation for career progression, particularly as the boundaries between financial services and Web3 continue to evolve. She recommended gaining practical experience through internships and projects before expanding into additional areas of specialization.

Li also emphasized the value of working alongside experienced professionals and choosing roles that offer meaningful responsibilities, regular feedback and opportunities to develop transferable skills.

KuCoin’s participation in the event highlighted the importance of combining financial knowledge, technological capabilities and continuous professional development as the digital asset industry becomes increasingly connected with traditional finance.
