Mastercard Global Money Platform Goes Live, Unifying Stablecoin and Fiat Payments

Mastercard’s stablecoin platform is now live. The payments company and BVNK launched the Mastercard Global Money Platform on October 15, the first major product integration since Mastercard completed its acquisition of the stablecoin infrastructure firm in August, according to the company announcement . The platform gives banks, fintechs, and enterprises a single API to hold, convert, spend, and move fiat and stablecoins side by side.

What the Global Money Platform Does

At the center of the platform is the global money account, a multi-currency account where fiat and stablecoins sit alongside each other with real-time conversion between the two through one API. Customers can issue stablecoin-linked cards in more than 130 countries and spend those balances across Mastercard’s acceptance network of hundreds of millions of merchant locations. The platform also plugs into Mastercard Move, the company’s money-movement network, so businesses can pay out stablecoin balances into recipients’ local bank accounts. Mastercard expects that payout coverage to expand to more than 40 currencies across 200-plus countries and territories in 2027.

Because the stack is modular, a customer can start with the capabilities it needs and add others later instead of stitching together separate vendors for each step of the money journey. Mastercard framed the tool as a way for a business managing multiple currencies and global suppliers to run liquidity, receivables, and payouts from a single place rather than juggling separate accounts and pre-funded balances across markets.

Fintechs and technology platforms can also embed the accounts into their own products to give customers one place to hold, convert, and pay out earnings, alongside configurable rewards and other account features.

The BVNK Integration and First Customers

The launch is the first major integration of Mastercard and BVNK since the card network completed its $1.8 billion acquisition of BVNK in August. That deal gave Mastercard a stablecoin infrastructure layer rather than another crypto-branded consumer card. Nuvei, Marqeta, Ontop, Beem, and Almond FinTech are among the first to integrate the platform.

“With Global Money Platform, we’re delivering on our promise to connect BVNK’s technology with the scale and trust of Mastercard,” said Chris Harmse, BVNK co-founder and chief business officer. Raj Dhamodharan, Mastercard’s executive vice president of Blockchain and Digital Assets, framed the launch as a step toward programmable and agentic commerce. The platform is available now through BVNK.

How Mastercard’s Approach Differs From Visa

Mastercard reached stablecoin infrastructure through acquisition. Visa took the in-house route, building its own stablecoin settlement stack and moving it from pilot to production this month . The two card networks are now competing on the same question: how to let regulated institutions settle and move value on-chain without turning them into crypto companies. Mastercard is selling BVNK’s infrastructure under its own brand and acceptance network, while Visa has emphasized direct stablecoin settlement on its existing rails. Both moves point to the same shift, with stablecoins moving from a crypto-native tool into the plumbing of mainstream payments.

What Happens Next

Mastercard said the platform will eventually support tokenized deposits, bank-issued digital versions of ordinary deposits, alongside agentic commerce, where software agents start and manage payments within limits set by a user or business. The company did not give a timeline for either feature. In the near term, the rollout will test whether enterprise customers actually move working capital and cross-border payouts onto a stablecoin rail, and whether the Visa and Mastercard platforms expand the stablecoin market rather than simply reshuffling existing flows.
