Anchorage Digital Selects LayerZero for Cross-Chain Stablecoins

layerzero-kinda

Anchorage Digital, home to America’s first federally regulated crypto bank, has selected LayerZero as its interoperability partner for stablecoin issuance, the company said on September 21. The arrangement routes stablecoins issued through Anchorage Digital Bank, N.A. across LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard, giving institutional issuers a single path to move dollar tokens between the growing number of blockchains where banks and institutions operate. The bank’s issuance platform already supports tokens tied to Tether, Western Union, OSL Group and Falcon Finance.

The OFT standard and 170-plus chains

LayerZero describes OFT as the industry’s most widely adopted interoperability standard for stablecoins, spanning more than 170 blockchains, and reports the framework has processed roughly $280 billion in lifetime transfers, or about 87 percent of cross-chain volume. Under the partnership, LayerZero becomes the preferred interoperability layer for Anchorage-issued stablecoins while the bank remains responsible for regulated issuance. The OFT standard lets an issuer maintain a unified token supply across chains rather than relying on wrapped assets or third-party bridge liquidity, and issuers keep control of their token contracts. The integration builds on the same cross-chain machinery that already carries dollar liquidity such as USDT0’s expansion to Stellar .

USAT goes first, then Western Union and OSL

Tether’s USAT is the first Anchorage-issued stablecoin to launch with LayerZero interoperability, with transfers expected to span Ethereum, EVM-compatible networks and Solana. USAT launched in January as Tether’s U.S.-regulated dollar token, with Anchorage Digital Bank acting as issuer rather than Tether itself. Anchorage’s platform also supports Western Union’s USDPT, OSL Group’s USDGO and Falcon Finance’s fUSD, which can adopt the same standard over time. LayerZero has not published activation dates or destination-chain lists for those three assets, so their OFT routes remain forthcoming.

Why a federally chartered bank matters

The deal attaches cross-chain reach to a bank operating under Office of the Comptroller of the Currency supervision rather than a patchwork of state money-transmitter licenses. Anchorage continues to publish monthly reserve attestations for the stablecoins it issues, and the partnership targets use cases spanning cross-border payments, institutional trading, on-chain lending and treasury management. The move lands as banks deepen their use of stablecoin rails for settlement, a theme visible in deployments such as SoFi’s stablecoin settlement across Mastercard’s network .
