Zcash has emerged as one of the biggest winners of the latest crypto rally, with ZEC breaking above $1,200 and reaching its highest price since 2016. The move briefly carried the token to $1,249.28 and pushed its market capitalization beyond $20 billion, following gains of roughly 45% in one week and 138% over the past month.
The speed of the advance raises a more important question for the ZEC price prediction: is Zcash approaching the limits of a momentum-driven rally, or is the market beginning to assign a permanently higher valuation to the privacy-focused cryptocurrency? Unlike a typical speculative breakout, several catalysts are developing simultaneously. Institutional access has expanded, privacy is attracting renewed attention, available ZEC supply is tightening, and short sellers have been forced to chase the market higher.
Zcash ETF Changes the Demand Equation
The most significant change behind Zcash’s rally is the arrival of a new source of institutional demand. Grayscale converted its existing Zcash Trust into an ETF, with ZCSH beginning trading on NYSE Arca on August 25.
That conversion makes ZEC considerably easier to access for investors who want cryptocurrency exposure without directly buying and custodying tokens. The fund attracted at least $34.4 million in net inflows shortly after launch and subsequently reached approximately $463.2 million in assets under management.
For Zcash, the implications extend beyond increased visibility. ETF demand can remove ZEC from the liquid market as the investment vehicle accumulates the underlying asset, meaning continued inflows have the potential to tighten supply at the same time that new investors are entering the market.
This creates a different backdrop from earlier ZEC rallies. The token is no longer relying exclusively on crypto-native traders for demand. If ZCSH continues attracting capital, institutional flows could provide a more persistent source of buying pressure even after the initial breakout loses some momentum.
Privacy Is Becoming a Bigger Part of the ZEC Valuation
Institutional accessibility alone does not explain why Zcash has outperformed much of the crypto market. The rally has also coincided with renewed investor interest in financial privacy, giving ZEC a fundamental narrative that differentiates it from many competing large-cap cryptocurrencies.
Zcash allows users to conduct either transparent or shielded transactions. Shielded transactions use zero-knowledge proofs to validate payments without publicly revealing the sender, recipient, or transaction value.
That feature could become more valuable as blockchain surveillance improves. Artificial intelligence makes it increasingly possible to analyze large quantities of public blockchain data and identify connections between wallets, transactions, and potentially real-world users.
Grayscale Head of Research Zach Pandl has argued that privacy could consequently become a “must have” feature for some users. If that thesis gains broader acceptance, investors may begin viewing Zcash less as an older privacy coin experiencing another speculative cycle and more as infrastructure addressing a growing problem for public blockchains.
ZEC’s Breakout Is Also Being Fueled by Forced Buying
There is another side to the rally that makes the near-term ZEC price prediction considerably more volatile. Short sellers have suffered heavy losses as Zcash repeatedly cleared major psychological resistance levels.
When ZEC broke through $1,000, approximately $34.5 million in short positions were liquidated in a single day. As ZEC’s move above $1,200 gathered momentum, another volatile session reportedly eliminated around $45 million in positions.
Those liquidations can turn an ordinary breakout into a much faster price move. Short sellers using leverage are forced to buy ZEC to close their positions as the market moves against them. Their buying then pushes the price higher, potentially triggering another round of liquidations.
The mechanism helps explain the speed of Zcash’s advance, but it also represents one of the biggest risks to the rally. Forced buying cannot support prices indefinitely. Once short positioning has been cleared, ZEC will need sustained spot and institutional demand to justify its higher valuation.
Tight Supply Could Determine Whether $1,200 Becomes Support
Supply conditions may ultimately decide whether the latest breakout holds. Grayscale is accumulating ZEC through its investment product, while miners and public companies are also reportedly adding exposure. At the same time, approximately 4.85 million ZEC has moved into shielded pools, the highest level since June.
These developments can reduce the quantity of ZEC readily available for trading. When a relatively constrained supply encounters ETF inflows, spot demand, and forced short covering simultaneously, relatively modest changes in buying pressure can produce disproportionately large price moves.
That dynamic worked strongly in favor of ZEC during the breakout through $1,000 and subsequently $1,200 . The next phase will provide a more meaningful test. If Zcash can establish a higher trading range after its 138% monthly gain rather than rapidly retracing the move, it would suggest that buyers are accepting the cryptocurrency’s new valuation rather than simply chasing momentum.
A sharp reversal would tell a different story. With leverage contributing to the rally, weakening demand could accelerate downside volatility as quickly as short liquidations accelerated the move higher.
CoinCheckup ZEC Price Prediction
According to CoinCheckup’s ZEC price prediction , Zcash could maintain a bullish trajectory through the end of 2026, with the strongest gains projected for December. The forecast places the September average at roughly €1,190 before average prices rise to about €1,379 in October and €1,411 in November. December then brings a more substantial acceleration, with an average forecast near €1,572 and a potential high of approximately €1,684, representing a potential ROI of about 68%.
The outlook reaches its strongest point in January 2027, when CoinCheckup projects an average ZEC price of roughly €1,676 and a possible high near €1,705. Momentum is then expected to cool considerably, with the average falling to about €1,463 in February and €1,345 in March. The weaker period could extend into spring, with May carrying the lowest average forecast of the supplied 2027 projections at roughly €1,323, suggesting that ZEC may give back part of its earlier advance before finding firmer support.
The forecast turns more constructive again heading into summer. Average prices recover to around €1,459 in June and €1,533 in July, while the July high reaches approximately €1,564. Overall, the CoinCheckup forecast points to a strong finish to 2026 followed by a January peak, a sizable first-half correction, and a gradual recovery into the summer. Rather than projecting an uninterrupted rally, the model suggests ZEC could establish a substantially higher trading range while remaining exposed to sharp swings after its recent breakout.
