MVB and Velocity Join Visa Direct Stablecoin Settlement Network

MVB Financial Corp., a banking partner to fintechs and innovation-driven companies, said on Sept. 9 that it will participate in a Visa Direct pilot supporting stablecoin-enabled funding and settlement for push-to-card payouts. The bank is working with Velocity, an enterprise payments and treasury platform powered by stablecoins, to bring stablecoin liquidity into its banking and payments operations, according to a release the companies published . The announcement marks another move by a regulated U.S. bank to treat stablecoins as a settlement rail inside everyday payment flows.

Stablecoins underneath existing banking rails

The arrangement lets MVB use stablecoins to settle its Visa Direct payouts, giving the bank more flexible options for positioning and moving funds. Digital-asset conversion, wallet connectivity and on-chain controls are handled by licensed partners, and the offering is delivered through a single API and regulated wallet infrastructure. The companies framed the pilot as part of a broader shift in which stablecoins sit underneath existing banking and payments systems rather than operating as a separate digital-asset product. For MVB customers, the appeal is that they keep the banking relationship and operational workflows they already use.

Executives see infrastructure, not a new product

“Banking is being rebuilt in real time, and stablecoins are at the center of that transformation,” said Larry F. Mazza, chief executive officer of MVB Financial. “By allowing stablecoins to solve inefficiencies in capital movement for payouts, we’re giving our clients faster, more flexible ways to move money.” Eric Queathem, founder and chief executive officer of Velocity, said the partnership reflects where stablecoins become most useful. “This is exactly where we believe stablecoins become most meaningful: when they disappear into the financial infrastructure businesses already rely on,” he said. Both executives framed the pilot as a way to move capital more efficiently without asking clients to adopt a separate digital-asset workflow.

A wider stablecoin push at Visa

The pilot follows a series of stablecoin initiatives across major card networks, including Visa’s work to connect onchain lending to stablecoin card financing . Velocity said the strategy aligns with emerging initiatives that let sponsor banks settle original credit transactions and issuer obligations in stablecoins. The companies cautioned that availability varies by eligibility and geography, and that the arrangement remains a pilot rather than a broad rollout.
