24X Completes First Spot Bitcoin Trade With Standard Chartered

bitcoin bank

24X Bermuda Limited said on September 1 that it completed the first spot cryptocurrency trade on its institutional platform, with Standard Chartered taking Bitcoin liquidity from Cumberland DRW. The 24X announcement marks the venue’s move beyond foreign-exchange products into spot digital assets. It also puts a global bank and a specialist crypto liquidity provider on opposite sides of the inaugural transaction.

Standard Chartered Takes Liquidity From Cumberland

The first trade was executed in Bitcoin under 24X’s existing strategic partnership with Standard Chartered, according to the company’s full release . The bank acted as liquidity taker, while Cumberland DRW supplied liquidity. 24X did not disclose the trade size or execution price. Standard Chartered said the transaction demonstrated how regulated banks can connect traditional market infrastructure with digital assets. The bank has also expanded its crypto footprint through projects such as its role in distributing a Hong Kong dollar stablecoin .

Bermuda-Regulated Platform Adds Crypto Spot Trading

24X said its cryptocurrency activity is regulated by the Bermuda Monetary Authority. The venue already offers deliverable swaps, non-deliverable swaps, metals and spot products to institutional customers through one trading interface. CEO Dmitri Galinov described the Bitcoin transaction as evidence that the platform’s crypto infrastructure is ready for institutional demand. Standard Chartered’s John Newman pointed to the bank’s trading capabilities and risk controls, while Cumberland’s Chris Zuehlke highlighted the importance of reliable liquidity and execution quality.

A First Trade, Not Yet a Volume Milestone

The announcement establishes that the spot service has handled a live institutional Bitcoin transaction, but it does not provide trading volumes, a broader client count or a schedule for additional crypto pairs. Those omissions make the event a launch milestone rather than proof of sustained adoption. Even so, the shared infrastructure for FX and crypto gives institutions another regulated route into digital assets as traditional firms cautiously test newer market structures. That trend is also visible in the debate over how Wall Street approaches perpetual futures . 24X said it intends to expand its spot offering as demand develops. The next test will be whether more counterparties and assets generate repeat activity rather than isolated launch trades. For now, the company has confirmed the transaction but has not published a spot-market rollout timetable.
