S&P Dow Jones Indices and Kaiko Launch Co-Branded Digital Asset Indices

blockchain main

S&P Dow Jones Indices (S&P DJI), the world’s largest index provider, and digital asset market data firm Kaiko announced on September 1 that they are combining their cryptocurrency index offerings into a single co-branded suite called S&P Kaiko Digital Asset Indices. In a joint release , the companies said the move brings Kaiko’s reference rates and multi-asset indices together with S&P DJI’s existing crypto indices on one platform, giving institutional investors a unified benchmark family for digital assets.

A 4,000-Strong Benchmark Suite

At launch, the S&P Kaiko Digital Asset Indices suite covers more than 4,000 rates and indices across the digital asset class. Financial products already benchmarked to Kaiko reference rates and multi-asset indices — including exchange-traded products, futures, options and structured products — will be able to carry the new S&P Kaiko brand, extending the reach of the combined offering to issuers and trading venues around the world.

How the Partnership Works

The suite is powered by Kaiko’s crypto-native data infrastructure, which draws on connectivity to more than 150 exchanges and round-the-clock market coverage, while S&P DJI contributes global licensing, distribution and benchmark administration. S&P DJI also brings its benchmark administrator status under the EU Benchmarks Regulation and alignment with the IOSCO Principles for Financial Benchmarks. “Together, S&P DJI and Kaiko are raising the standard for digital asset benchmarks,” said Cameron Drinkwater, chief product and operations officer at S&P DJI, adding that institutions need indices defined by transparency, rigor and market relevance.

Institutional Demand for Trusted Benchmarks

The launch responds to growing institutional participation in digital assets. Asset managers, ETF issuers, exchanges and structured product providers increasingly require benchmarks that combine robust data, transparent methodologies, trusted governance and global distribution — a demand reflected in the CME Group’s recent addition of reference rates for Ethena’s ENA token. Kaiko chief executive Ambre Soubiran said the pairing gives institutions “the credibility, distribution and data precision they need to participate in this asset class with confidence,” a shift also visible in XRP futures open interest moving toward CME as institutional participation grows. Kaiko Indices, S.A., will retain its existing brand and BMR registration as the legal entity behind the indices.

The rebranding consolidates two of the most established names in index provision and crypto market data into a single distribution point, at a time when traditional index providers are formalizing crypto benchmarks. With more than 4,000 rates and indices under one brand, the S&P Kaiko suite positions S&P DJI and Kaiko to serve the next wave of institutional and regulated digital asset products.
