Coinbase Rolls Out New Deribit Matching Engine With Claimed Sub-Millisecond Latency

Coinbase main3

Coinbase says it is rolling out a new high-performance matching engine for Deribit by Coinbase, designed to process more than 100,000 orders per second with sub-millisecond matching latency. The company made the claim in its Aug. 12 announcement .

The rollout brings Deribit onto the same core execution infrastructure as Coinbase International Exchange, Coinbase said. The company positioned the change as infrastructure for institutional derivatives markets rather than a new retail-token listing.

Speed bump on selected instruments

Coinbase said the engine includes a built-in speed bump on selected instruments. It says that briefly delaying aggressive orders may give liquidity providers more time to respond during fast markets and could support tighter spreads and deeper resting size over time.

Those liquidity outcomes are expectations stated by Coinbase, not measured results in the announcement. The company did not claim that the mechanism eliminates market risk or guarantees execution quality.

Planned platform scope

Coinbase said all of its perpetual futures are expected to run on the engine later in the year. This is a forward-looking product plan, not confirmation that the full migration has already occurred.

Derivatives availability remains subject to regional restrictions, regulatory requirements and eligibility assessments. The announcement also includes a risk warning that virtual assets can be volatile and lose value. Coinbase has framed the rollout as platform infrastructure, not investment advice or a performance guarantee. The company says the shared engine is intended to give its derivatives venues a more consistent technical foundation as product coverage expands.
