: The Coldcard hack is terrible. It also makes the entire Bitcoin 'influencer' community look like utter clowns, which most of them are. It's not like this was some particularly sophisticated attack. The company had a single job: generate high entropy keys safely. Instead of doing its most basic job properly it larped on about their shitty little product - which looked absolutely disgusting, and for nerds - and how it was best in class for securing Bitcoin because it had so many complicated features no one needed. I have a sixth sense for bad product design. I looked at Coldcard a long time ago and my first thought was 'this product looks ugly AF and conflated overly complex security with bad design choices'. The two are not mutually exclusive - you can have great security and great design; their product had neither. The best products abstract away all complexity. Simplicity is king. Coldcard frontloaded complexity and then hid

The two are not mutually exclusive - you can have great security and great design; their product had neither. The best products abstract away all complexity. Simplicity is king. Coldcard frontloaded complexity and then hid behind 'muH security' for why the product looked so goddamn shit. I wasn't impacted by this at all, but I feel for those who were, and I hope the company and those responsible get sued into the ground. I also hope people treat Bitcoin podcasters less seriously, because most of them are either non technical shilling you some product they know nothing about, or so ridiculously technical that they have zero product intuition and no ability to communicate with the common man.
