Traditional Finance Crypto Push Accelerates: Tokenized Treasury Repos, Ethereum Staking, and Listed Companies Add Holdings in Tandem

Recently, traditional financial institutions and listed companies have made several substantive advances in crypto assets. BNY and Citadel completed the first tokenized U.S. Treasury repo, Interactive Brokers launched Ethereum staking services, and Strive spent $235 million to increase its Bitcoin holdings. These moves fall respectively under three areas—tokenized assets, brokerage services, and listed-company asset allocation—showing that interaction between institutional capital and traditional financial markets in crypto assets is deepening. It should be noted that this article focuses on the main thread of traditional finance's crypto buildout; macro market fluctuations such as the rebound in core CPI raising rate-hike concerns and Bitcoin falling below $82,000, as well as security incidents such as hardware implants in Ledger reseller devices stealing seed phrases, are not discussed here.

From the perspective of the institutions and projects involved, BNY and Citadel, as large financial institutions, completed the use of tokenized U.S. Treasuries in repo transactions; Interactive Brokers, as a traditional brokerage, extended its services to Ethereum staking; and Strive, as a listed company, increased its Bitcoin holdings through capital market instruments. Although the three belong to different business types, they all point to the same trend: the traditional financial system is connecting to crypto assets in different ways. This trend is not driven by a single event but is emerging simultaneously across multiple layers, including tokenized assets, crypto asset services, and institutional asset allocation.

In tokenized U.S. Treasury repo, BNY and Citadel completed the first transaction. The transaction is viewed by the industry as the first time tokenized assets have completed a U.S. Treasury repo on a large tri-party platform, marking an important milestone in the integration of traditional finance and blockchain and carrying industry expansion value. From an application scenario perspective, this means tokenized assets are moving from proof of concept toward specific traditional financial transaction processes. Currently, confirmable information remains focused on the completion of the first transaction; whether it will later expand to more asset classes, participating institutions, or transaction sizes still requires more public information to verify.

In brokerage services, Interactive Brokers launched Ethereum staking services, open to eligible clients. Traditional brokerages accelerating their crypto asset buildout is another path for institutions to participate in the crypto ecosystem. Interactive Brokers' entry shows that large traditional brokerages are incorporating crypto asset services into their existing business frameworks. This development is positive for the Ethereum ecosystem and mainstream adoption. However, current public information does not disclose specific participation thresholds, supported scale, or launch scope, and the actual impact still needs to be observed in light of subsequent adoption.

In listed-company asset allocation, Strive spent $235 million to increase its Bitcoin holdings and raised $369 million through warrant exercises, with the amount raised exceeding the purchase amount. This move shows that the trend of listed companies allocating to Bitcoin is continuing. It should be noted that a single listed company's allocation behavior cannot represent the overall market direction, but its amount and financing method indicate that some institutions are still increasing Bitcoin exposure through capital market instruments. For market sentiment, such large-scale accumulation has a certain supporting effect.

Looking at the three developments together, it can be seen that the combination of traditional finance and crypto assets is advancing on multiple levels: tokenized U.S. Treasury repo has entered the stage of completing its first transaction on a large platform; traditional brokerages have begun offering Ethereum staking services to eligible clients; and listed companies continue to increase Bitcoin holdings through capital market instruments. The three correspond respectively to traditional financial infrastructure, brokerage services, and institutional asset allocation, together forming different manifestations of the expansion of institutional-grade crypto services. These developments are not isolated events but observation samples of traditional financial institutions accelerating their crypto asset buildout.

Going forward, public information in three areas needs attention. First, after the first tokenized U.S. Treasury repo transaction is completed, whether more traditional financial platforms, asset classes, or participating institutions will follow. Second, how the eligible client scope, actual adoption scale, and compliance arrangements for Interactive Brokers' Ethereum staking service will be implemented. Third, Strive's holdings changes after increasing Bitcoin, follow-up arrangements for the funds raised through warrant exercises, and whether more listed companies will disclose similar allocation moves. The above information will affect the market's judgment on the integration process between traditional finance and crypto assets. Based on currently available public information, the expansion of institutional-grade crypto services and the integration of traditional financial infrastructure remain directions worthy of continued industry tracking.
