Ondo Finance on September 24 launched Ondo Intelligent Portfolios, a new onchain product category that packages professionally constructed investment strategies into single transferable tokens, the company announced . The first three portfolios are powered by model portfolio strategies that BlackRock developed specifically for Ondo, giving eligible investors outside the United States access to diversified allocations through a single token for the first time. Diversified, professionally constructed strategies have historically required brokerage accounts and traditional fund structures, the company said.
The three BlackRock-powered portfolios
Each portfolio is a separate token with its own ticker. BLKHIon is Ondo High Income Powered by BlackRock, BLKDIGon is Ondo Diversified Growth Powered by BlackRock, and BLKGRWon is Ondo High Growth Powered by BlackRock, spanning income, diversified allocation, and growth-thematic strategies. BlackRock’s role is limited to supplying nondiscretionary model portfolio strategies based on specifications Ondo provided; the asset manager does not manage, tokenize, issue, distribute, or custody the onchain products.
How the tokens work
Each portfolio token is issued by Ondo Global Markets and tokenized by Ondo Finance. Investors mint or redeem a single token to hold a weighted basket of tokenized assets instead of buying, weighting, and rebalancing individual positions themselves. Holdings, weights, and every rebalance are visible onchain, and rebalancing can execute automatically at the smart-contract level. Ondo said the format also unlocks full composability with the broader DeFi economy and the ability to combine multiple asset classes within a single token.
What the executives said
BlackRock’s Lisa O’Connor, global head of Model Portfolio Solutions, said tokenization “shows how established portfolio construction approaches can be delivered through new channels and technologies.” Ian De Bode, Ondo’s acting CEO and president, said portfolios “like these have never been available onchain” and called the launch “an important milestone in the development of onchain investment products.” Ondo said it intends to add more onchain portfolios over time.
The launch extends Ondo’s existing relationship with BlackRock, whose BUIDL tokenized money-market fund Ondo previously tapped for its OUSG treasury product, and follows a year in which Ondo’s tokenized-equities business surpassed $1 billion in value locked . Ondo has separately been building onchain cash-management products with State Street and Galaxy .
