According to a report by The Times on September 7, BlockBeats stated that the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has been in discussions with several trading platforms regarding a potential relaxation of the ban on financial prediction markets for retail investors, which has been in place since 2019.
The FCA previously classified forecast contracts linked to financial events and certain weather events as binary options and banned their sale to retail investors since 2019. However, as UK consumers increasingly turn to overseas platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket, the agency is considering easing the restrictions, and its current public stance still supports maintaining the ban.
