According to Huoxun Finance, British police have announced that 10 people, including former World Championship 4x100m relay gold medalist and British sprinter CJ Ujah, have been charged with conspiracy to defraud in connection with a cryptocurrency scam. The group impersonated police and cryptocurrency company personnel to commit telephone fraud, inducing victims to disclose mnemonic phrases and other wallet security information before transferring their cryptocurrency assets. Some victims lost over £300,000. The case was investigated by the Eastern District Special Operations Unit in conjunction with multiple counties. All 10 suspects have appeared in court, and Ujah has been released on bail until a hearing on May 28. The 32-year-old Ujah led his team to a World Championship relay gold medal and a Diamond League title in 2017. In 2022, he was banned for 22 months for doping, which was later determined to be a false positive due to supplement contamination. Another British sprinter, Brandon Mingeli, is also on the arrest list and is currently in custody awaiting trial.
