Binance Launches Foreign Exchange Perpetual Futures

binance main1

Binance is extending its perpetual futures franchise into the foreign exchange market. The exchange said on September 18 that Binance Futures will list a USDBRLUSDT contract on September 21 at 14:00 UTC, adding a foreign-exchange currency pair to its derivatives lineup for the first time, according to an official notice . The instrument tracks the US dollar against the Brazilian real, settles in USDT, and carries up to 100x leverage with 24/7 trading.

Inside the USDBRL Contract

The listing is a USDⓈ-margined perpetual with a tick size of 0.0001 and a minimum notional of 5 USDT. Funding settles every eight hours, with the rate capped at plus or minus 0.375% and an interest component set at zero. Binance said the contract will trade around the clock, applying the crypto futures market’s all-hours model to a currency pair instead of the sessions that govern traditional foreign exchange. The contract also supports multi-assets mode, letting traders draw on a wider pool of collateral.

Weekend Pricing and the Index

The platform will price the contract differently depending on the day. From Sunday 17:00 ET through Friday 17:00 ET, the index updates every second as a weighted average of quotes from third-party data vendors. Over weekends and public holidays, Binance switches to an orderbook EWMA mode, a fallback that keeps the contract tradable while the underlying FX market is closed.

Part of a Wider Multi-Asset Push

The FX listing extends a strategy Binance has been building for months. The exchange has already reported strong traction in its TradFi perpetual contracts and added ETF wealth management with US Treasury and bond funds earlier in September. A USDBRL pair is the next step in folding more of traditional finance’s largest markets into a single round-the-clock venue.

Why It Matters

For traders, a USDT-settled FX perpetual removes the need to hold a foreign currency to express a view on it, while the 100x cap keeps the contract consistent with Binance’s other futures. For the market, the move tightens the overlap between crypto venues and foreign exchange, a market that handles trillions of dollars in daily turnover. The USDBRL listing is a single contract, but as the first FX perpetual on the platform it sets a template for further currency pairs.
