Charles Schwab, one of the largest brokerages in the United States, said it plans to add Solana (SOL), Avalanche (AVAX) and Chainlink (LINK) to its Schwab Crypto platform, broadening the service beyond the Bitcoin and Ethereum it already lists. The firm detailed the move in a press release published on Aug. 27 , saying the three assets would be rolled out over the coming months. Schwab Crypto launched for clients in May 2026 and currently offers direct spot trading of the two largest cryptocurrencies, with the platform serviced by the company’s bank subsidiary.
What Schwab Crypto offers today
At present, Schwab Crypto supports direct spot trading of Bitcoin and Ethereum, the two assets it opened with at its May launch. Adding Solana, Avalanche and Chainlink would mark the first time the brokerage has expanded that list since then, and it would hand Schwab’s clients direct exposure to three networks that underpin a wide range of decentralized applications. Solana in particular has been undergoing network-level changes, with proposals SIMD-550 and SIMD-553 aimed at trimming SOL issuance . The company framed the new additions as a phased rollout and has not yet published exact listing dates for any of the three tokens.
Why the expansion matters
The announcement extends a broader pattern of traditional financial firms deepening their crypto offerings. Institutions such as JPMorgan, which grew its Bitcoin ETF stake to $356 million , have been broadening exposure beyond the two largest cryptocurrencies, and a brokerage of Schwab’s size adding altcoins is another sign that mainstream venues see durable demand. Running the service through its bank subsidiary also lets Schwab keep custody and execution within its existing regulated infrastructure rather than relying on an outside crypto venue.
What is still unclear
Schwab has not specified a timeline beyond the coming months, and it has not said whether the three tokens will go live at once or in stages. The company also did not detail custody arrangements or whether additional assets could follow after Solana, Avalanche and Chainlink. Trading volumes will depend on liquidity and demand once the tokens are actually listed, so the practical impact remains to be seen. These are forward-looking plans from Schwab rather than completed listings, and each token still has to clear the firm’s regulatory and operational steps before it can be traded.
