Walrus

Walrus is a decentralized data storage network for data and rich media content such as large text files, videos, images, and audio. Unlike traditional cloud storage systems that rely on storing complete copies of data in centralized servers, Walrus splits data into small pieces and distributes them across multiple nodes around the world. Through this decentralized approach, Walrus ensures that data is quickly available even in the event of failures; even if part of the network is offline, the system can still retrieve complete data. Walrus represents an evolution in the way decentralized data storage works, and its establishment draws on the successes and challenges of earlier protocols such as Filecoin and Arweave. By using innovative coding algorithms, Walrus can quickly write and read data, and can also delete data that no longer needs to be stored. It is built on the Sui network, with programmable storage capacity and can be maintained and expanded through smart contracts.
