Storj is a cloud storage platform that aims to be censor-free, surveillance-free and never shut down. The platform allows users to store data in a secure and decentralized manner by encrypting a series of decentralized applications. It uses block trading features such as distributed transaction ledgers, public/private key encryption, and cryptographic hash functions for security. In addition, it is cheaper, faster and more secure than traditional cloud storage services.

Storj is a decentralized point-to-point cloud-based storage solution that allows users to rent or purchase unused digital space to store files and data. It aims to offer an alternative to services offered by tech giants like Google, Amazon and Microsoft -- a decentralized service that claims greater privacy and security than traditional storage solutions.

Storj does not have its own resource storage pool, but instead builds a network where anyone can contribute their storage resources for others to use, and they can then charge users in blockchain tokens based on resource usage. Initially Storj referred to storage contributors in its community as "farmers", but as the decentralized cloud storage technology has been upgraded to V3, they are now referred to as storage node operators. STORJ tokens are the STORJ platform tokens, which are part of the STORJ network to provide value transfer among storage nodes, satellite operators and customers that provide excess storage capacity and bandwidth. Those who pass the certification of storage node operators will be compensated with STORJ tokens (based on Ethereum).
