PlatON是一个基于服务的计算架构，除了提供计算、数据、存储、网络等基础服务外，应用开发者也可在PlatON上发布自己的应用服务。PlatON上每个应用的运行都要消耗一定的资源（包括算力、带宽、存储、数据等）。为实现资源的公平合理使用，避免资源的滥用，PlatON通过一系列算法实现资源的合理调度和有效性验证，并使用LAT来度量资源的使用。 LAT也是驱动PlatON这个&ldquo;计算工厂&rdquo;运转的能量。各应用链也可以创建自己的应用LAT。在PlatON网络中，用户只需要一个统一帐户就可以管理和使用自己的LAT。不同链的LAT可以自由跨链转移。
 PlatON由一条主链和多个应用链构成。各链业务上相互独立，逻辑上相互平行。主链是PlatON网络的初始链，应用链是为解决特定行业问题而衍生出来的垂直链。
